Characteristics and Application of Magnesium Alloys

1.High specific strength and stiffness.The specific strength of magnesium alloy is higher than that of aluminum alloy and steel.The specific stiffness is equivalent to that of aluminum alloy and steel,and much higher than that of fiber reinforced plastics.

2.It has good shock absorption performance,which is 5-30 times that of aluminum alloy,20 times that of plastic,and 50-1000 times that of steel.

3.Good casting performance.Magnesium hardly reacts with iron,so iron crucible can be used for smelting.Compared with aluminum alloy die casting,the service life can be increased by 2-3 times,and it can be maintained more than 200000 times.

4.Excellent cutting performance.The cutting speed of magnesium alloy is much higher than that of other metals,which reduces the cutting time and the tool consumption is very low.

5.Good electromagnetic shielding.Magnesium alloy has better magnetic shielding performance than aluminum alloy and can better block electromagnetic waves.

6.High heat dissipation.The heat conduction of magnesium alloy is applicable to electronic products with dense components.

7.Regeneration.Waste magnesium alloy castings can be remelted and used as secondary casting materials for AZ91,AM50 or AM60.
